One of the many drawbacks of living in a city like Kathmandu is that one drastically loses touch with nature. Given to few parks and open spaces, Kathmandu seems increasingly getting choked with concrete buildings built in a haphazard way to make room for its growing population. Unplanned and mismanaged, vehicles have grown in an unprecedented manner in Kathmandu, owing to which its streets remains clogged with smoke, pollution and dust. Pavements have been taken up by vendors, and if not that, filth, and only the remains of what used to be trees exists along the roadside. It is increasingly becoming unbearable to live in the urban nightmare that is Kathmandu. Of course, there are still things that a person can be proud of in and about the city – the splendid temples, rich culture and other architectural heritages, but even they stand in a decrepit and crumbling state. Of course, it is we, the inhabitants of this city, who are responsible for the sorry state this once beautiful and lush green valley finds itself at present.

There are many factors why people flock to Kathmandu and it is not because they do not love nature. Who would not prefer to live in midst of Nature surrounded by greenery instead of living in a polluted city of Kathmandu? Lack of infrastructure, security, good schooling, medical facilities, job opportunities etc are the main reasons why they move to Kathmandu. If there were only good roads with efficient transportation people will move out of the city and to live along the foot of the mountains. Now it is only the rich and affluent that could buy large plots of land and live there.

these are reasons to introduce federal state structures. late king Birendra tried to do it with 5 development regions. that was only show. We can reduce the population load in kathmandu only through federal state structures.

-at least one unversity in each states
-self governmance  to state, no need to come in ktm, more jobs in state
-one internationla airport in each state
-very weak central government and stong state governments
-armies are divided equally in each state but under the commands of central government otherwise there is chance to split nepal.

Result: harabhara kathmandu. all the central ministries in narayanhiti. also residence of elected president.

I cannot understand why some people are arguing about the chastity of the king. The Jana Andolan II has already shown the door to the king. Some are hoping that king will be back if there will be free and fair election. This is not the Panchayat period and unfair election is very unlikely. The entire world will be watching and no one will dare to manipulate. Some of those glorifying the king should understand that even the king has accepted his mistakes so why they are raising unnecessary slogans about the king. Those that brought down the king by giving wrong radical advices should understand that the chances for the monarchy are nil. The situation in Nepal is very fragile and the only way to bring peace is compromise not confrontation. Respectable website like Nepalnews.com should not provoke disturbances by concentrating only on glorification of the king by few of his supporters. In the discussion board it is hard to find any thing other than the glorification of the king rebuking the Maoists. There are so many interesting relevant issues to discuss about other than the king and the Maoists but I can’t understand why Nepalnews.com is directing the discussion always towards the king only.

One of the most dangerous business predators is slowly but certainly making its way through the opaque private investment market. The undesirable newcomer is called sovereign wealth funds (SWFs). Immediately, some kind of “economic intelligence” is brewing all over the USA and the EU to thwart at every turn the sudden impact of the same.

Of late, in the 1970s Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries used a vague name of Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in order to buy the Occidental Government bonds and even though they’d a lot of money they never wanted to control any foreign companies for strategic ends.

Obviously, the nub of the matter that concerns everybody is, many new SWFs are nowadays deliberately participating in the acquisition of equities. Let us name them hereunder according to their flow of capital; for example, the Singapore’s Temasik and the Brunei Investment agency (state-owned) holds $2,500bn, the China Development Bank (state-owned) holds $1,200bn and Russian Gazprom (state-owned) holds $500bn and whatnot.

What’s absurd in all that is about two to three decades back the EU countries privatized the state-owned societies to reinforce the liberal concept of market economy. Now, in the meanwhile, many foreign countries all over the globe have collected a huge amount of petrodollars and the countries like China and India which are slowly becoming the world workshop by attracting all companies seeking low cost labour are collecting hunk of dollars through the massive exportation of commodity goods to the detriment of ancient rich countries with high purchasing power. These abovementioned SWFs are buying stakes everywhere, thereby acquiring the private equities, albeit they’re foreign state-owned invaders.

Already the hedge funds are devastating the private companies by selling the acquired enterprises in several compartments to make tidy little sum of plus values; now SWFs of foreign countries are purchasing very lucrative societies as did Mittal by throwing a hostile OPA on Arcelor.

The recent takeover of 9.9% stake in Blackstone for $3bn by China, Qatar buying of J. Sainsbury and Vladimir Putin seizing several energy assets from foreign companies by using Gazprom as his deadly weapon have alerted the USA and the EU Governments.

Through thick and thin, as did the USA in the past by blocking the proposed takeover of Unocal by the Chinese oil company CNOOC and forcing Dubai Ports World to shed the Direction of a group of US ports, the German and French Governments along with many others are leading a backlash against SWFs by reinforcing their economies, for example, holding “golden shares” in some industries, to block the acquisition.

They’re in a great sweat about it, alerting every Government concerned to avoid that the foreign countries that do not provide the same facilities in their homeland to foreign investors, would not own the vital national jewels and thus jeopardize the national integrity of some strategic countries by stealing the high-tech patterns.

 And now to round off, I must say that the EU commissioner Peter Mendelson has been summoned to elaborate a new law to alleviate sequel.

Really, they’re walking on the razor’s edge.

It apprears that Mr. Ross Gurung is an expert in Stock marketing and investment.  With my little knowledge of this kind of subject, I have to confess that I cannot coment on it, however I think, Mr. Gurung has not followed the subject matter that Ananda Gurung writes on the topic.

I think, we can gain a lot of things in terms of economy using our two sides emerging giant economis such as India and China.
