Victoria Cross to Gurkhas: Who cares?

Of the total 1,356 Victoria Crosses, the highest military decoration given by the British monarch, awarded worldwide since its inception in 1856, 13 were given to the Gurkhas. Unfortunately, none of these bravery medals are in Nepal now.

your first paragraph is, I think, wrong. There are four living VC winners in Nepal, out of a total of 12 living winners now. Bhanubhakta gurung, lachhman gurung, ram bahadur limbu and tul bahadur pun. Also, you make it sound like Nepali were eligible for VC since 1856. No, the brits started to give it to us only after first world war.Lots of deserving nepalis were not given, for example, no one Gorkha in Monte Cassino war was given any VC.

Gurkhas are brave and are sill brave. They have shown this bravery many times in the world history, but unfortunately who cares for what they have done in their lives. That’s why they are still called Lahure and will be Lahure too.
