Killings, intimidation continue in Terai

When Home Minister Krishna Sitaula was lecturing on his security plans at a programme in the capital Sunday, a murder was taking place in broad daylight in Bara at almost the same time, and there were series of bomb blasts in the commercial town of Birgunj.

It is very sad to see our country being shattered into pieces. I wonder if anyone read the Tehelka brought out by India. Jaykrishna, I don't even know who this stupid Indian head,  is claiming for a free nation and has been saying that he is neither an Indian nor a Nepali. The present war in the Terai is just another way to shatter Nepal into pieces. Well this might be something what the Maoist have been trying to do. It was not an easy task for Prithivi narayan Shah to unite the country. And now as soon as the Shah Dynasty has been stripped off from power the Terai belt has started seeking for a new state of their own. The most amazing thing that's been mentioned was that the Strength of the Gorkha Sainiks has been claimed to be powerless without the help of these Terai people.I don't know how true it is. The present murder and instability in the Terai belt is at any cost the hidden play of the Indians and we should always know this. I just want to know if the Indian Slave Maoist leaders have any answer for causing this instability in the country. Do they have any solution for this besides the butcher brain?

It is such a pity to see such a peaceful country turning out into a terror stricken country with no way out and am very horrified to see many Nepalese turning their heads away from the country and leaving it in its present state. If this unrest continues I am sure we will very soon in the near future be seeking for our identity and all the Neplaese throughout the world will have to search for their real self somewhere in history.

The Terai demand especially raised by Jaikrishna has made me think twice to say are these people really Nepalese or just another group of Indian slaves who are ready to sell the country through this violence and unrest that will do nothing more than create a deep trap of conflict from which the country will never come out any more.

Thanks to all those who have tried hard to erase our identity from the history and thanks for all those who have ruined the nation. This proves that Nepal is no more protected by sincerity and honesty that was really rooted deep in the heart of true Nepalese.

I don't even know if I can ever say Jai Desh, though Jai Naresh has almost been brought to an end. The most horrifying thing is 'Ma Mare Pani Mero Desh Banchi Rahosh' will never be fulfilled if this murder, intimidation continues and I can only suggest all the present Nepalese to be ready to become a refugee very soon in the future and start thinking about which nationality would they like to take in the near future.

The culture of Killing, intimidation is developed by the Maoists in Nepal. They really destroyed peaceful image of th country. Same criminals are considered political leaders in Nepal, what a shameful reality.

You can't compare tragic incident of Palace massacre with killing of fellow citizen by the terrorsits. The fact of palace incident is badly mislead by the terrorists, which is not a true will not believe by any body.

I think we have to read this interview  becasue this is the contribution of SPAM thug criminals in LOKTANTRIK Nepal to Nepali people.

WE WANT A FREE COUNTRY, NEITHER NEPAL NOR INDIA'

Tehelka, India

Jaikrishna Goit, head of the underground Janatantrik Tarai Mukti
Morcha (JTMM-G), in conversation with Sankarshan Thakur

We cross the dusty border into India on a rickshaw at a location we
are committed not to disclose. We are then led to a poky hotel, a
stone's throw from no-man's-land where the leader of the main Madheshi
insurgent group is holed up. The JTMM (Goit) strikes every other day
somewhere in Madhesh and is high on the security's hit list. You
expect to see a raging warlord. Jaikrishna Goit is a bespectacled
sexagenarian who wields history texts more often than he wields guns
to justify his armed enterprise to liberate his land. The professorial
revolutionary refused to be photographed but spoke at length on why he
wants to secede from Nepal. Excerpts

'We were annexed and gifted away. I want to correct that historic
injustice done to the people of the Tarai'
Tehelka: Most Madheshi groups want autonomy and a stake in how Nepal
is run. Why do you want liberation?

Jaikrishna Goit: Because I am another country. The Tarai was annexed
by Nepal's Pahadi rulers and then parts of it were ceded to them by
the British through treaties. By the Indo-Nepal agreement of 1950, all
earlier treaties stood abrogated. This is not merely in the treaty,
but also a part of un documents. The Tarai should have become free
then. Am I to blame if my forefathers were not vigilant or smart
enough to claim back their land? Even India cannot argue against me.
India signed the 1950 treaty with Nepal and it clearly states all
previous treaties stand scrapped. It is simple, we are free, we should
be free.

You think it's so simple? Do you think a new country on these borders
can become a reality? Will anyone accept that in this changed world?

Many countries are getting liberated, that is the changed world. And I
am not seeking anyone's acceptance, I want my country, whether anybody
agrees or not. I know what you are talking about — whether Nepal will
be ready, whether India will want it. The fact is I am neither Nepali
nor Indian nor of Indian origin. History proves that, I have texts to
establish that. I want people in Kathmandu also to make themselves
aware of their real past. The people of the Tarai are a separate
people, they should have their country. I may not be able to achieve
that in my lifetime but that is not the point. The aspiration for
liberation is there and the coming generations will get it. I belong
to the Tarai, I know the only thing people want is freedom.

But you were long part of Nepali politics, you were first a communist,
then you turned a Maoist, why this sudden thrust for liberation?

Because I am the most exploited and colonised person in Nepal, because
I have no way of correcting that other than being completely free to
determine my circumstances. Those who are negotiating autonomy are
collaborators, they will never get that from the Pahadis, they will
only get tokenism. That is not what we want.

How do you justify this daily bloodshed?

Even Gandhi said it is better to be violent than to be a coward. The
enemies of my country have to be eliminated, there is no other way.
Ram fought and killed Ravan. Krishna fought the Kauravas. Nepalis do
not treat us as human beings. There is no other way of dealing with
them.

Can you fight the Nepali state with arms?

Why not? Most of Nepal's great struggles have been fought in the Tarai
by the people of the Tarai. We know how to fight. The myth of Gorkha
bravery is just a myth; whatever they know about battle, we taught
them. Read history carefully and you will know. And we are not killing
innocents, we target people.

Many of them are Tarai people, many of them are from other Madheshi
groups. Some people say your struggle has degenerated into petty crime
and reprisal.

The enemies of liberation have to be eliminated, no matter who they
are. And those who call us criminals merely want to defame us. Do I
look like a criminal to you? Don't you see I have been pushed into a
corner where I have no choice but to pick up the gun? Nobody calls the
Maoists and the Young Communist League criminals. They are in
government and continue to kill and commit all sorts of other crimes
everyday.

Don't you think the new Constituent Assembly might fulfil the
aspirations of the Tarai people?

It will only renew the slavery of my people. Nepal has no right to
conduct an election here and talk about a Constituent Assembly. We do
not belong to them.

So there is no possibility you will talk?

No, I can. If they create the right atmosphere, I can go and tell
them: pass legislation in parliament for an independent Tarai and we
will live happily thereafter. That is all I have to say to those in
Kathmandu. At the moment, there is no such atmosphere. The State and
the Maoists are after us, we are running for our lives most of the
time.

Do you have the strength to fight a sustained battle?

I am not saying I will achieve liberation tomorrow. We are in a
movement, we are building cadres, opinion is turning towards us. An
autonomous Tarai is a halfway house and you will not even get that.
The only way is a complete break.

Is India protecting you?

I do not want to make any comment on that. All I can say is I am a
freedom fighter and a guerrilla. And, legally speaking, India has to
support the case that the Tarai was never a part of Nepal, it had only
been annexed or gifted by imperial powers. That injustice has to be
undone.

I am always to oppose killing and intimidation even some is why not a murder must not be murdered.

I am very sad to know about daily killings of people in Terai region.

However, I do not blame loktantra(complete democracy) for this happning.  Some one behind the scene and wants to proove that democracy is not good for Nepal.

I accept the autonomous rulling, but it is not acceptable to be a separate state from our motherland Nepal.  Thus, the current rulers of Nepal must convince them who want to split our united Nepal.

We must remain united to safeguard our nationality with the true democracy but not with the autocracy.

Well said Arunima

I agree with your points. These selfish, corrupt and greedy politicians who are agent of India intentionally want to create a division in the country by not treating everybody equally and giving rights to people. They still want to hold of their greed (don't want to give political power easily, don't want to leave chair which they are holding for so long in cunning ways), they don't want to include lower cast, deprived and marginalized people in politics which has created all these. They have thrown the king and have become king themselves.

And those butcher Maoist are waiting like vultures that when they can get PM or president seat. If present situation continue for another few months then what Arunima said is not far.

GOD Bless Nepal and corrupt, selfish and greedy politicians with brain before it become too late.

Constitutional Monarchy and Multi-party Democracy for National Integration

Thursday, 05 July 2007
BY HARI LAMSAL
'Nepal' the very word does not only epitomize from the very beginning the political integration of this country also encompasses language, culture, tradition, religion and the way of thinking and living of the four-castes and 36 sub-castes or the groups. In this way, Nepal is a representation of both the political power as well as the integration of culture. Late king Prithvi Narayan Shah, mindful of this reality, envisioned a greater Nepal to restore the glory of this country and initiated the campaign of uniting the smaller states and the fiefdoms.Considering the country's geo-political situation, religious sentiments, culture and tradition, social structure, historical background and above all the popularity, monarchy has remained indispensable for this country's existence. The fact that monarchy has always remained committed to maintain unity among diversity, to lead the country towards democracy and modernization and to maintain and boost the country's image and prestige does not need further explanation. To say in one sentence, monarchy is the highest patron of this country, symbol of national unity, foundation of political stability and the focus of national consensus. That is why we say the faith of the Nepalese people on monarchy will never wean.

Talking about any political principle, monarchy is the root of all other political principles or the philosophies be it democracy, republic, people's republic or loktantra. The background of monarchy dates back to several thousand years to the Vedic period and ruling the country according to a certain norm and process is monarchy. The principle philosophy of monarchy is the establishment of rule of law taking lessons from nature. Political science has clearly stressed that monarchy is the most appropriate process whether it is to fortify the society or strengthen the feeling of nationalism and to stabilize culture, tradition, or social justice or to establish peace. The basic tenets of monarchy are unity, development balance and people's consent. Other characteristics of monarchy in Nepal is that this country was unified by the crown, the crown has taken the leadership of democratic process and the crown itself laid the foundation for modernization of the country.
The Royal institution is the protector of Nepal's existence and independence and the republic system if that is established as alternate to monarchy, will abolish the country identity. A republican set up cannot understand the country's cultural, natural, social realities and the norms, values and the tradition of the people. The guiding principle of monarchy is the consent of the people and a king is not a ruler but a protector of the society.

In Nepal, there must not be any chasm between the democracy as wished by the people and monarchy. There is no other force except monarchy, which has remained a pivot for the protection of Nepal and democracy, to safeguard the country' existence. It is only monarchy that has been able to bring 25 million Nepalese under a single emblem. Nepalese If monarchy is used as a bargaining issue between the political parties there will be no check and balance mechanism and that will result in foreign interference creating chaos in the country. Therefore, in all situations there must be monarchy and monarchy must have a role in the country's politics. If there is a proper balance between democracy and monarchy, no one can cast an evil eye on the country sovereignty. The way democracy must not be weakened in the name of dogmatic nationalism, similarly democracy must not also be debilitated in the name of authoritarian monarchy. For that there must be a constitution that will create a proper balance between nationalism, monarchy and parliamentary democracy. This is also because monarchy has shored the country in times of need and tribulations. In this time also people have expected much from the constitutional monarchy in stopping the country from deviating from the path of uncertainty. People also expect that Nepal can march along with the rest of the world in the 21st century

This scribe still remember vividly the guidance and the his interpretation of responsible journalism for impartial and objective journalism and for remaining committed for the cause of the country and the people that King Gyanendra provided during an audience and special interview.

This scribe had received audience from His Majesty King Gyanendra on Bhadra 15, 2058 BS at Nirmal Niwas and His Majesty had granted his first interview. During the interview, this interviewer clearly found that the King was committed in fulfilling his role as constitutional monarch. His Majesty had said that the King had nothing of his own everything that belonged to the king belongs to the country. He had also said that he would fulfill his role as a king and considered each individual of this country as a 'potential' force. The King had said that we had two big neighbours and it would be out shortsightedness to play one against the other and also that we must understand the sentiment of each of them. Still, the King had focused on protecting the country's dignity and prestige.

This columnist had again got the opportunity to meet with the king on Jestha 15, 2062 and during the interaction the King had clearly said that the step of February 1, 2005 was compulsive and he had to take the step in the larger interest of the country and the people… He had pointed out that the country must be led along the path of democracy, and there would be no problem if those who have to work for democracy work with the sense of their duty and responsibility.
To the question that foreign powers were openly supporting the political parties against the king's step of February 1, 2005 and wasn't it interference in the country's internal affairs, the king had said: "The pride of Nepalese does not allow it to accept foreign interference. The characteristic of a small country is to remain alert, attentive and pursue a diplomacy that is pragmatic."

To the question of republic, raised by the Maoists, the King had said: "Neither the King nor the Maoists alone can wish for republic in this country. First of all the people's wish should come first." He had pointed that he was bound by the constitution and also that he had with total honesty fulfilled his constitutional responsibilities and the other political parties should also remain with the constitution, which he felt was not happening.

Maintaining that he had clearly understood the feeling of 25 million Nepalese, the King had said that we all were standing at a very difficult period and the country was facing serious challenges. Therefore, all who love this country must join hands, he had said and added that nationalism, democracy and prosperity were complementary to each other and all must strive in creating a new Nepal based on multi-party democracy and constitutional monarchy.

To another question of whether the royal institution has been a permanent and the people's institution, the King said the faith, belief and honour of the people was the continuity of monarchy and that monarchy had always and would always work for the collective rights and interest of Nepal and the Nepali people. The king, during the interview, had also expressed his complete faith on constitutional monarchy and multi-party democracy and had called all to come together to save this country from falling into the impending disaster.

On politics, the king had said that the Nepalese society was over-politicised and this will not work for the good of everybody. The country cannot move ahead if everybody always talks about politics and politicizes everything. Giving his view on the politicians, he had said that politicians themselves had complaints and grouses that our politicians did not have a 'vision' and against the politicians themselves raise the question of credibility on one another. "In such a situation, the people should remain cautious and aware," the King had said. On the correction of the announcement of Asoj 18, 2059 BS and the step, the King had said that it was also a compulsive step and he had used Article 127 of the constitution not on his will and wish but on the request of the political parties. The King had said that press was the heart of democracy and it should get into healthy criticism. "It must not indulge in demeaning and humiliating anybody," the King had said.
