Finance Minister presents 'White paper;' warns of serious "fiscal crisis"
Newly appointed Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat has blamed the erstwhile royal government of pushing the country's economy on the verge of collapse and has warned of serious fiscal crisis in the country.
Presenting the "White Paper" on the state of the country's economy at the meeting of the reinstated House of Representatives on Monday, Minister Mahat warned that the government was likely to come across serious fiscal deficit in the days ahead. He admitted that the government was not in a position to meet its recurrent expenditure through existing sources of revenue.

This was known result. The SPA have to in any condition blame the past goverment. Did they reliase that they asked the International doners to stop assisting Nepal. The result was bound to be there. I live in village in nepal . I know how badly we had suffered in the hands of maoist. Now they have again started collecting chanda. We had expected atleast congress to support theKing , get rid of maoist and then form a goverment in Nepal. But the congress letme down. (I am also a fanatic congress)

You guys, fanatic people, blind supporters of political parties have spoilt the political leaders. You guys made them corrupt. You blind support them for receiving some unfair benefits. And, they have to make corruption to fulfill your needs, not to say their own needs. They have already pushed the state into 50 yrs back, and you have not been woke up yet. We can only express "daya" for you. The main cause, in my opinion, of the worse situation and obstacles of development and well being of nepal is such type of people. I am saying this , may be, beacuse I have not got any unfair benefits through the political parties so far. Thank you.

This is so typical and very predictable. I'm surprised that ANY donor, incuding my own country (UK) would want to continue with aid to Nepal.
Will the Finance Minister calculate how much aid disappeared into the pockets of the SPA members in previous years? No he won't because we all know it will be an enormous sum.

The Finance Minister called upon Nepal's donors and multilateral agencies to release the assistance which they had suspended since the royal takeover last year, provide direct budgetary support to address the 'cash crunch' of the government and offer 'liberal support" to help the government in its economic reconstruction programme.
Do not you have any self-respect ? You are a PhD holder and must have visited many developed countries. You must have known how people work over there, how many hours a day ? and how many hours a day your civil servents work ? We nepali do not need any aid but need to work hard. The aid may be needed for your SPA members to go into their pockets.
This type of aid only make nepali people like parasite. They will never get up until such aids continue. Let nepali people do their best. Let them work hard like the people of the countries affected by the World War II worked in late fourties, and fifties (after war period). I came here in Canada last year, and discovered that people over here work an average of 10 hrs. a day. I heard in Japan people work even harder and longer than here in Canada. But in Nepal, many government employees hardly work for 2 hrs a day in average. Foreign countries should only help Nepal when Nepalis need more help to supplement to their hard work. Anyone who is a good-wisher of nepali people should immediately stop the aid. No single penny should be given until there is a normal working system, and of course social justice. Thank you

Jai Nepal... this economic crisis prevails not just due to the blockade of aid but mostly due to the extravagant expenses made during foreign trips made by His Majesties and foreign minister. I dont have much to say about the money spent on buying military helicopter as it was the requirement of the situation but certainly a huge share of economy was being wasted on trivial matters.
Well... I would not reject the donations
but the comment posted by Bayan is certainly an "eye-opener". That is exactly what is happening in Nepal. There is a similar situation in private sector... that has become our mentality. We want less work and immediate return. But guys there is no shortcut through the forest of life.

Do not get so hard on me brain. What option do I have when I am asked to post a pool. Do I become communist. It is like celecting best thug among many. should you have read my comments carefully, I have scolded the SPA, isn't it. I am a service holder in private company and have nothing to dow tih political benifit.
Well if you ask me for the extravagent expenses for the King, if you take that other way, we alteast know that money was being spent there. In the 12years f decocracy, only 35% of the total aid reached to their target. There are about 250NGO and INGO in KLarnali which is still the poorest anchal.
I was very very setisfied by the programmes of the King and things were going well too. But these doners, only give money for their cause.
Expmple if where are sambhu thapaand company Now. Once the EU welcomed the Royal Proclamation, Sambhu Thapa (Bar association living on funds of EU) have vanished

If the King and his entourage spent so much of money on foreign trips, be reminded its our money we are talking about, why is the present Government so hard bent on spending our money feeding the maoist militia?? The white paper presented by our FM is nothing but a begging bowl! Instead of spending time preparing white papers, why not involve the public in drafting a new outline for Nepals economic development??? Mind you, the former regime appointed people who were capable of handling the economy of the country, not people like Bamdev who served in the Indian Police Force as a hawalder and later on the DPM of the country

I apoligise for that. This is not my personal opinion, but many nepali people (at least many people whom I know) think so. Since nepal has very low rate of literacy, many people think a PhD degree holder is a perfect expert in his/her field, and he/she never does wrong thing, and deserves a great respect in nepali society.

LOL. SPAM is based on extortions and donations. They are killing Nepal. All the businesses are dying. How will we survive?
