World HIV/AIDS Day: Voices of people with HIV/AIDS remained unheard

As the world marks the World HIV/AIDS Day today, Nepal is also celebrating the day with the theme ‘Accountability’ but the pains of the HIV infected people remained unheard. According to statistics, more than 75,000 people were living with HIV/AIDS by the end of 2005 in Nepal with 5,100 deaths till the date. However government statistics show only 8,073 HIV positive people till October 31, 2006 and only 358 deaths due to the disease. According to the National Centre for AIDS and STD control, only 1,186 people were infected from AIDS till October 31, 2006.

It is really need of time to work very effectively to check up and proper treatment to this life killing desease. But it seems that there have only been working a lot in documentary but in reality less than 10% have done out of those shown in document. The clear picture of being  money-making ,non-committed,lack of seriousness and dishonest in a large about handling this issue by government,so called NGOS/INGOS and vested interest groups, can easily be seen  from recently denial of providing fund  by Internal community because of sending two diffrent nature proposals  by Govt and NGO respectively. It is really shameful and ubfortunate happening in very sensitive issue, for what we could just ask God to provide the concerned a sense of humanity and love to motherland.Jay Nepal !

Xtrared,
Instead of spoiling time by using vulgar phrase to advertise terrorism, you should spend some time to make people aware about HIV.

A crucial social issue.Unprotected sex and drug abuse have proven to be a curse on our society. I remember an NGO in Dillibazar providing packed needles to addicts to avoid the reuse of contaminated needles. The logic was that you cannot stop addiction overnight but you can minimize the long term term effects. Maybe gestures of this kind and education about safe sex will help matters a bit.
