Success of peace talks depends on Prime Minister’s stance: Gurung

One of the members of the Maoist talks team, Dev Gurung, has said that the success of the ongoing summit talks between the ruling seven party alliance and the Maoists will depend on the stance of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on the issue of establishing democratic republic in the country.

I believe in multi party democracy but Maoist should not lay arms if Nepal army does do the same.
Please do not trust Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. Before he said to all Nepalese that Nepali Congress removed Monarchy from party statute. Look at him now, he says Nepal keep ceremonial King!.
If, someone who does not keep his promise then we will be fool to trust him.
Maoist leaders, please do lay down arms if Nepal Army does not do so. The laying down of arms should be parallel and in equal from heaviest weapon to small arms.
If only Maoist laid down arms, Girija will not hesitate to shoot down all the Maoist cadres at the same time.
Please do trust Girija Prasad Koirala!!!....A man who would not hesitate to break his own promise.
It would be a blunder mistake if Maoist only laid down arms.
Thanks...

There is no doubt in my mind that Girija is a weasel.  He and his clan are also responsible in a large way, for the start of the armed Maoist rebellion.  It was under his leadership that thousdands of Maoist supporters were raped, killed by police forces loyal to the Nepali Congress.  Regarding this, there is no doubt.

But Girija's stand on a ceremonial monarchy is less a ploy to retain Gyanendra and more a ploy to attract very powerful forces to NC's side.  The utility of the monarchy in Nepal is getting little day by day.  Not because of Girija, not becase of India, not because of MaKuNe, but because of Gyanendra as an individual.  He is unfit to do the job job a constitutional monarchy was supposed to do and because of that, he is unfit for a ceremonial role also.

Taking the word of a Maoist leader who is trying to blame the outcome of talks only on one man is also silly.  Girija may be a super idiot but no less idiotic than people who will fall for the Maoist strategy of making it like the whole talks depends on one man alone.  Don't the Maoists have a responsibility to make the talks a success also?  How do they intend to become legitimate political leaders if all they can do is play games by blaming one person or the other.

If what Dev Gurug is saying is right, they people can also say that it is up to Prachanda whether this peace talks is successful or not because without Maoists accepting to lay down their arms, there can not be more progress.

These Maoists leaders need to learn to behave like leaders, stop playing political games, stop misleading the public, before they are treated like democratic leaders.  If they are so sure that they will be victoirous in the polls, they should lay down their arms and involve the international palyers heavily and their supporters to protect them while they go for power.  Why do they need to hold their weapons if the Maoits want a peaceful protests in the form of "october revoluton?'

It seems that we all are wandering here to there but not finding proper and right way to our destination. What we always need remember that our main objective is to finding sustainable solutiion to the ongoing armed conflict, but if conflict is dealt in order to sort out issues as per demand or undue influenced or pressure from particular force or group certainly it may be  long lasting big headached of the country and it can not be flatly denied the fact that there may have another armed conflict by dissatisfied power or group. So,all the issues need to be addressed properly with perspective view through the democratic ways and all major issues are need to be left for general people to decide their fate.Without having proper process of democratic norms and value in which all capable citizens  must get equal right to excercise for deciding country's substancial issues which has most direct related to each of them and their loving generation. At this critical juncture of time,no party or group can democratically and legally claim as peoples real representatives and have mandate to decide future of country and people because there has not been done democratic poll or referendom about clearance of issues. So,it is not time to declare this type of political sysyem or this body has power and this power remain that power gone, what is most important to do at this very hard and most critical time is to mange arms and army of all sides in a way where there will not have a chance to misuse the same against people and people's main democratic excercise as such election of CA or referendom.Main things we must create an environment where all competent citizens can participate in democratic process without any interferance from any power by playing weapon power directly or indirectly and people must be allowed to live in a free andfearless  environment so that real demcratic development can be flourished in Nepal.I beleive if we have great faith in democracy and we consider the people are only our master then there will be no as such problem which can not solved through good understanding.First and foremost thing at this moment is not to blame each other and try best to trust each other and pave a way to settle main issues to people through their real democratic participation and there is not any alternate to find best and peaceful out let to the current critical issues.Jai Nepal.

This is really nothing else than maoist hyperbole! The real issue is, of course, disarmament of the maois rebels. How can anyone believe in free elections with armed militia, more or less controlled by the maoist leaders, roaming the countryside?
Second, usually, when the change of the constitution of a country is the matter, a simple majority is not sufficient: it needs a qualified 2/3 majority, preferable in two referendums! Why should such an important matter such as the creation of a "democratic" republic be treated in such a flimsy fashion?
It should not be sufficient to just have a simple yes and no to the monarchy on the ballots. A more realistic ballo would say:

Are you in favour of a powerless figurehead as head of state, with all the power vested in an elected repressentative, or would you want a despot, that only answers to his own party, and whose name will most likely be Prachandra?

THE SUCCESS OF PEACE TALKS DEPENDS ON THE COMMITMENT ON BOTH SIDES TO HONOUR THE PEOPLE'S MANDATE.IT IS ALARMING THAT GP KOIRALA IS ROOTING FOR THE KING AND THE MAOISTS ARE CONTINUING LOOTING AND INTIMIDATING PEOPLE.THE WISHES OF THE PEOPLE ARE CLEAR.A VOTE ON THE KING,PEACE AND A MULTI PARTY DEMOCRACY.THESE DO NOT DEPEND ON ANY SINGLE PERSON'S STANCE BUT SHOULD BE TAKEN AS THE MINIMUM OBJECTIVES TO BE ACHIEVED THROUGH TALKS.
