I have just returned to my home in the UK after a short mountaineering trip to read of this tragedy and was shocked to read that the Director General of the National Parks was amongst those killed. I immediately phoned my wife's family in Nepal to confirm that it was our friend Tirtha Maskey who was killed and tragically this is the case. I am devastated to hear this news, he was such a friend to us and to Nepal. His work in Chitwan and elsewhere to protect wildlife, but helping local communities too, has been legendary. He took us to Chitwan many times and my daughter has a great memory of him taking her on a camping safari into Chitwan when she was very young. It is only a year ago that he led the dancing at my wife's 60th birthday party in Kathmandu.
I am just too shocked and sad to write more.

Great loss to the Nation as well as to to Conservation Biology.

My father worked with many of them in the field. I knew a few of them as well.
