Oil crisis and the 'Nepali Drama'

In his book, 'Asian Drama' (1968), Swedish Nobel laureate, Gunnar Myrdal, talks about the 'soft state syndrome' to highlight tendencies where the governments announce decisions but fail to implement them. Last week's government's decision to hike the price of petroleum product and later to withdraw it within 48 hours in the wake of violent street protests in the capital fully fits into the Myrdal definition.

Nothing destroys authority so much as the unequal and untimely interchange of power, pressed too far and relaxed too much.

I could understand and sympathise that the Nepalese people are not happy with the Oil prices but Nepalese people must learn to protest in a peaceful way. They are damaging and ruining the current infrastructure like office buildings and roads ... who will fund for these in the future..? No wonder, the government has to increase the prices on Petrol and other things.. Our country is simply not getting enough money to develop the country and the current infrstructure. Nepalese students and the protestors must learn to protest in a peaceful manner without destroying the whatever little development we have and learn to nurture the development.

May the god give nepalese people some sense and education!!
