'Sarva dharma sambhava', not 'Secularism' - I
Nepal should proclaim 'Sarva dharma sambhava', not 'secularism.' 'There are many spiritual ways' is our ancient ethos. 'Secularism' is an irrelevant copying of the European political technique. Thus, when we proudly proclaim Nepal a Hindu nation, it means we are proud of our heritage and culture, nothing more. And when we declare Nepal a 'secular' state, it means we want to dissociate from our very root, nothing less.

Hindu Dharma itself is a secular Religion. Caste system and other evils that cropt up, is just a mis-interpretation of the Religion. So declaring Nepal a Hindu State is like declaring Nepal a secular country.

Its true that there are no religious clashes in Nepal till date. But there are no guarantees of the future. I think its always better to stay in the safe side. It wouldnīt be pleasant in future to listen the news about people protesting to declare their country secular, would it? Nepal should be a secular state.

I dont agree with UDEEP. All eligions go together in Nepal becasue nepal was a hndu country,. Look at India, its secular. Look at Pakistan, its Muslim country and lots of terrorism. Hinduism Jainia, Buddism, Sihikh are great dharma beasuse they donot force conversion by bread or sword like christians and Muslims. I think Nepal should again be changed in to Hindu counrty or atleast Om kar parivar country

Brother Jai Nepal,
I think it would be misleading to relate religion with the growing terrorism. The comments like that of yours evoke clashes between two religious groups. Nepal has always been a religiously peaceful country. I am a Buddhist, but i have lots of Hindu, Christian and Muslim friends as well. And i find them all friendly and helpful towards me. Its true that there are extreme religious groups in certain part of world who are causing violence. But they have got their own reasons for fighting. For example, If we look at Nepal, Amercans say Maosts are terrorists. But do all Nepalese think the same? Many think they are good and are freedom fighters, and the rest now think they are just like another political parties. So your perspective should be broad. In terms of religious conflict, I had myself experienced a bitter event. A high-classed Hindu women from a village refused to eat her meal just because I, a person from another caste and religion, entered the dininig room during her breakfast. (Ask many Nepalese born and grown outside kathmandu what am i talking about.) So it is to abolish many such religious discrimination and maintain peace and unity, i think, Nepal must be declared secular.

I agree with writer Tilak Shrestha . I do not see there was need to declare secularism when all religion were equally given respect in our country. The word ' Sarva Dharma Sambhava' represents all religion itself without losing the identity of Hindu country which had been prevailing from ancient times.

Iīm not being pro King, but i think must make this comment, regarding our "ancient tradition". According to our ancient tradition, our King should receive the highest respect in our country, he is the symbol of hinduism, the only hindu King in the eintire world, just like they call Father Pope Bennedict in Vatican. But what do we see right now, people are against him, people allege him of being murderer. I mean where is your religious faith and age old tradition? You want to wipe out an important symbol of Hinduism and say at the same time that we need to preserve our Ancient Tradiotion? Either this means we Nepalese are driven by impulse and not our conscience, or we donīt follow and regard any religion and tradition. Time has shown that (people protested) that King should be removed, and if Hindu lord is removed, there is no meaning of state being Hindu. I mean whatīs the problem declaring state a secular? Iīm sure i am not asking people to change their religion.

SECULARISM DOES NOT MEAN NEPAL TURNS INTO A JEWISH/MUSLIM/OR A CHRISTAN COUNTRY-THE MAJOIRITY OF US ARE HINDUS,SO THE NATION REMAINS HINDU.WHAT CHANGES IS THAT OTHER FAITHS HAVE EQUEAL RIGHT TO PRACTISE THEIR RELIGION-PLUS AS WE MAY NO LONGER BE A KINGDOM IN THE NEAR FUTURE WHAT IS THE POINT IN BEING KNOWN AS A "HINDU KINGDOM".
