Global Economic Crisis and Nepal

By Dr. Kamal Raj Dhungel

Nepal will have insignificant impact of the global crisis because its domestic economic activities are sluggish which implies that it is already in the nearest point of recession. But there will be greater impact from the present global economic crisis. Millions of youths will lose their job in the foreign countries that reduces the remittance.

No doubt, there is a great as well as harsh negative impact of current global economic crisis to Nepal. The possibility of non-providing jobs to foreign nationals in the developed and advanced countries because of mandatory situation of curtailing jobs make them bound such decision in order to secure jobs to their citizens.Nepal is likely to face the double problems, firstly it will be deprieved of huge remittance which is a major source of economy, secondly the return of working-age youth creating kind of anarchial situation because of unimployment.Nepal needs to think out seriously about this most likely challenges and immediate work-out for some managable policy to meet these reality. But,its almost clear that under the current state's position created by the so called great politicians, who are master minded only for selling dream, there is a very slim posibility to have optimistic out-come.The Dr.Kamal Raj Dhungel's efforts to give a kind of warning message would certainly help to open eyes of rulers and for which he is subject to be thanked.

Yes, Nepal can not remain unaffected by this global recession. So, Dr. Dhungel, as a professor of Economics, what measures do you suggest the government for minimizing the effects of global recession?

Nepal cannot be avoided from the global crisis. Though it might not seem today or tomorrow but surely it has an indirect impact because the main source of nepalese economy has been the remitance which i believe should be directly affected by this gobal economic crisis. And similarly the multi national companies have been scared to put their hands at this stage. Some of the housing companies have started pulling out the members
