Kathmandu: The City of Scarcity
One sight has become very commonplace in the nation’s capital these days, and it is the long line of motorbikes, taxis and buses stretching, at times, up to two kilometers from petrol stations in the main thoroughfares of the city. This is the worst fuel crisis the city residents ever saw since 1990 when the country went out of petroleum products after India imposed an economic embargo against it which only worked as a catalyst for the democratic movement to follow.

It's a long time since I posted here, and it will probably be a long time before I post again. But the shortages in Kathmandu are caused by two things.
First the Maoists showed the whole country that it is possible to get your own way with violence, agitation, disturbances and bandh. The Madhesi have learned this.
Second, federal republicanism is a road to seperatism. Those who hold or control the resources call the shots. Simple.
Welcome to the Maoist Federal Republic of Nepal!

Hey KTM... WAKE UP. It is absolutely obnoxious to read the “The City of Scarcity" as I remembered Kathmandu as "City of Joy". I have been proudly pronouced our beloved city to countless people, and it is very sad helplessly watching our country degrading. I simply pray and wish for better Nepal again.

Nepalis are not stupid people. I have found them to be clear thinkers, but with one big exception. That is, allowing Nepali politicians to manipulate public thinking with an endless steam of self serving bullshit. Maoists are famous for this and in China it lead to mass starvation.
Until Nepalis stop arguing about futile politics and start to concentrate on being more efficient, more competitive, more productive, and adding more value to the goods and services that Nepal produces – you will have increasing scarcity.
Until the ruling class stop sitting like vultures trying to grab kickbacks, grab a hidden commissions, grab bribes, and take advantage the market for ever Rupee they can without adding any real value to goods services and the economy– you will have increasing scarcity. And when the whole economy grinds to a halt – and Nepal can no longer afford to pay competitive world prices for your oil - you will have increasing fuel scarcity.
When the politicians gave in to mob protests and reversed the latest fuel price rise they demonstrated what a childish relationship exists between the public and the politicians. It was just more bull shit. You simply must pay the real world price for oil & fuel – or you will have oil and fuel scarcity. All the demonstrations in the world can not and will not change that. The politicians should start to tell the truth to Nepali people and finally end this childish mob rule . . . or you will have more scarcity.

Kathmandu is in a very sorry state.Fingers can be pointed in any direction but at the end of the day nothing will have resolved. May be the best thing here is to pray and wish for the best. Honestly, it makes me really sad as we can not do any thing than to sit and wait.

We want to know is kathmandu everything?
What about the problem faced by other parts of country. Who is going to talk or even discussed it. Do raise other issues too espically madesh, right of madeshi people and in general corruption. If government, its officials, Political leaders etc make them self clean than most of the problem will be resolved and country will be 90% free of problems.
Will power of corrupted people is so huge they donot want to change at all.

As the saying goes: “ If people are hungry, teach them first how to fish before you wish to give them something to eat ‘cause tomorrow they’d be hungry again.” But, question is are they nearby a river bank? Dear me, “the river bank” is nothing else but the fruit of your labor! And for that they’ve got to learn to be skillful and find different ways and means to fulfil the same everyday with fish.!! That’s no doubt a long long way out!!!

certainly a reason to be worried, but we shouldn't get pessimistic either I think.Being my motherland I can only have good words for her,for the people with whom I've grown up.During 85 the kathmandu had 10 times more temples than populous habitats, was a cultural scenario of native newari people,i love them and their culture,it's so participative that being a non newari i used to forget even of my family cultural background.I love speaking to the elderly people in their native idiom though my friends usually were shy to do the same.I remember going out to other valleys and having my turn on the local samebaji and other traditional foodstuffs it was so stupendous!but lately the population has increased exponencially without taking into account of quasi nothing.the basic human conditions of Kathmandu are more than infrahumans.people neglecting the basic neatness of their surroundings, doing business without any city planning, but on the other side it has traditionally been the backbone too,it took the role of a big castillo during the insurgency period. The wise would be to replan the functioning style from the very local level. It should be counted hospitals, schools, public transports, commercial hubs and then start doing a progressive distribution. Now it'salready an asian cosmopolitan city where multiculture is vast in every aspect.I'm quite hopeful that it'd again revive as safe and popular destination not only to the the foreigners but also to every nepalese irrespective of their ethnicity.let's defeat our so called reasonable stark pessimism with the optimism of the will.reminding that it doesn't come in the form of gift neither without efforts.

Heart cries when I hear and see the problem which Nepal is facing these days.Hey everyone, we post the articles and reply to some of the issues also but why can we discuss the solution.Lets discussion the solution and recommend to the concerned people.
See the people who are influential and wealthy will never face problems. But what will happen to the people who earn wages.I feel really sorry to them.
I agree with Dr.Prithivi's views.Moaist are the one who started with all this kind of stuffs and the people agitating in Madesh now are the one who were Moaist.Things are happening other way round in Nepal.
